I recently sold my beloved, American--built, LX build, GT Ricochet. It was a beautiful bike that served me well along the trails of the Wasatch Mountains for 15+ years. I scoured the local classifieds looking for a modern upgrade. I hoped for a hardtail 29er with a decent shock and at least a Deore build. I owned a Diamondback Ascent wayyyy back in the day, and happened upon an online deal on an Overdrive Pro with a SLX, Deore, XT build and a Fox fork. I almost pulled the trigger. However, it was a heavy bike and I thought I'd better research all online inventory at the local bike shops to be sure I wasn't missing a deal. Plus, I wanted a correct fit. I was a little nervous to buy a bike online, set it up, only to find it's a little too big or small. At 5' 10 1/2" I land between a Med & Large. I wanted to be sure of a great fit. Also, although I'm really handy w bikes, I wasn't stoked to be required to set up a new "online" bike or fix-up a used one. I am so glad I held out and happened upon the 2013 Giant Anthem X 29er 4!!! A local shop had several in stock and were blowing them out. These were "new -old-stock." (I purchased new in April 2016!). I got wayyy more than I bargained for: Deore, a nice Recon fork, PLUS Maestro/ Monarch full suspension, Schwalbe Racing Ralph's, a great Giant 29er wheel set, not to mention a beautiful black/eggshell blue paint job. (All pics I can find look more sky blue but in person the blue is much more of a subdued "cornflower/eggshell blue.). When I found this bike online I researched all online reviews I could find. Pros and average Joes raved about it' great value, and performance way beyond it's price. They touted it's climbing and XC abilities, as well as it's nimble-for-a29er trail manners. After a couple of weeks on this awesome machine, I'm an absolute fan too!!! This bike rocks!!! I am instructed in this review not to mention ANY names of retailers, so I won't. I will say if you are looking for one of Giant's last 29ers ( they've gone almost exclusively 27.5 now) I wish you luck! There are a few of these left at a nice shop south of SLC.
